SEIZURE OF A SCHOONER BY THE HAUHAUS. May 11.

RAGLAN.

News has, just .arrived; in, Hag Jan or the~i seizure ancb detention : cf tlie schooner ( In- ] dustry,' at Aotea,"l>y,ihe Kawhia natives.' It appears that a gentlemen, representing a ' Sydney firm, lately* leased some — land a -at = Aotea, for the -purpose of erecting a flax T raill 5 and opening- a , store there. Having con- 7 eluded his arrangements', he chartered- ther Schooner * Industry' at Auckland, for Aotea, - and freighted her with the requisite stores and mill appliances. After arriving in the bay at Aotea, the vessel was seized by,, the . Hauhaus — King natives — and the goods not allowed to be landed. Messengers were dinmediately sent to Baglan with the intelligence, and a few gentlemen interested in the opening of that harbour immediately repaired there to give what assistance they' could in settling the dispute. Theie have not yet returned, so I cannot say how the affair will end. Of, course it is well known that the King natives object to selling or leasing their land to Europeans ; but the objectors have right to interfere with the disposal of land belonging to Queen natives. Surely the Government must see the necessity of putting a stop to the defiant attitude assumed by these rebels, and not allow them any longer to insult and domineer over our people.
