THE EAST CO AST.
By the arrival of the s. s. ' Star of the South' yesterday we were placed in possession of Hawke's Bay papers to the 18th, which, however, contain little or nothing of interest to Auckland readers. The Leotard Brothers, accompanied byMr. H. Morgan, vocalist, arrived by the 'Kauri,' and intend giving a series of performances. The Hawkers Bay Times records the death at the agr- of 36 years, of Mr. W. F Palmer who died after a painful illness of several weeks' duration. Mr Palmer had, by his exertions in the Sunday schools, in the temperance cause, and, in fact, every good woik, cembined with his own consistent conduct, gained the esteem of all who knew him. He has left a wife and three young children, as well as many friends, to mourn his losp.
