THE FLYING SQUADRON.
The several steamers plying to the Flying were extensively patronised yesterday ; all c}a£aes of citizens ta&ang. advantage of the opportunity thus afforded them of personally,, inspecting the ,internal arrangements of such magnificent specimens of naval architecture. When on board, the visitor-s ! were most courteously conducted over every part of the vessels by the officers and sailors, who displayed every disposition to add to the interest of such a visit by pointing out all that was notable ; and many a group returned to town with the feeling that there were more things in this world than were ever dreamt of in their philosophy. Those who had the good fortune to visit the flagship in the morning had the extra pleasure of witnessing diving operations. Two divers were fitted with complete diving habiliments, and descended to the depths on rope ladders, for the purpose, it was stated, of recovering some articles of value that had accidentally been lost. Everything else was forgotten by the sightseers, in their anxiety to watch this curious proceeding, being, we are told, the first time such a thing had been carried on in this harbour.
