July 10. Eaoij recurrent election for the Provincial Council becomes less interesting for our Marsden voters. The only movement which I have heard entertained with any favour, -with regard to the forthcoming nomination of a member in lieu of Mr. Davy, is the fullest exercise of our hitherto favourite political inaction. Some tacticians advocate that the old ns inertia, or how not to do it, would in this case be the strongest indication by the Marsden electors of their sense of the useleasneas to them of the present institutions, if it ceuld be so far carried out that no one would be nominated. Notwithstanding a very general feeling in favour of staying at h«me, it is still manifestly impossible to bring aboub sufficient unity among us for the success of such a project. It is, however, calculated, not without sufficient likelihood, that the intentional apathy of the many will permit a party to creep in at the eleventh hour and third attempt, who footing our anti-climax will demonstrate to a certainty the nearness of the approaching amendment in our legislation. In my calculation some time since, as to the probable area under wheat in this district, I was not far wrong. I have made out 125 acrei sown and well tilled this season in contrast to about 27 acres last. The agitation by our Agricultural Society has so far had a good result. Tobacco will aho be grown to some extent; indeed, I trust each parson will plant a little for experiment, as if not sufficient for sale he can have it manufactured if we don t all go to the diggings. Indeed, very many are now leaving, encouraged by the success of their neighbours who have preceded them. .
