PAPAKURA.— THE PUBLIC MEETING. ABSOLUTIONS IN FAVOUR OF COUNTIES TO BE PROPOSED. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) June 10.
Thi Committee appointed by the Papakura Association on the 4th inst., to arrange the programme for the proceedings at the public meeting of. electors of Franklin and Raglan, to be held at the Papakura Hotel on Friday next, met to-day at Read's Hotel, when it was atranged that the following resolutions should be placed before the electors :—: — 1., "That this meeting cod aiders that a change of system in the government of the province should be advocated by our representatives at the ensuing session of the General Assembly.. ' 2. "That this meeting recommends the forming of the province or colony into counties of convenient size, with a County Council to manage all local matter* ; iuoh Council to be electire." 3. "That our representatives should be pledged to oppose any additional taxation, suoh as an income or property tax ; and also to reduce as far as practicable, the present expenditure of the General Government." The Committee then adjourned until 12 o'clock on Friday next, to arrange any further matters that might then be brought before it, when it is earnestly hoped that all members of Committee will attend.
