THE BAY OF ISLANDS.

By the steamer 'Halcyon,' which arrived from Ruisell on Wednesday night, we have receded information that Mr. Maclcay, jnn., Civil Commissioner, was at the seat of war ; but up to the date of the departure of the 'Halcyon,' despite his great awiduity, he had been unable to settle the difficulty between the Ngapuhis and Rarawas at Hokianga, who were still on war intent. It was stated, however, that he had not lost all hope of being ultimately successful in his attempt, and we sincerely^ trust the receipt of next advice 3 may prove his aspirations to have been well founded.
