COMPENSATION COURT.Wednesday. [Before Mr. Commiss oner Beckham.]

Mr. Boatdman appeared on behalf of the Government, and Mr, Brown w»8 sworn in as interpreter.

CLAIM OF HOKI KtTKUTAJ. Former award, .£7O, Hori Kukutai, sworn, deposed that two of the horses he lost were at Whatawhata, and the other wa3 at Nukuhau, previous to their being taken. They were in charge of his younger brother. His brother went to Taupo and left them on the run. They were seen ou the tun. by Mita Karaka after his brother had left. Claimant was in the Survey Office at the time the horses were taken. He paid £50 each for the entire and the plough horse, and £40 for the riding horse. Mita K»raka stated that he saw two of the horses takpn by the soldiers. He did not know what became of the other horse. He told the soldiers not to take the horses. He thought the two horses taken were worth £90.

CLAIM OF MITA KABAKAt Former award, £16 Iss. Mit» Karaka deposed that he had left ths goods for which he claimed, in his house at Maraitai. He left the house about the middle of the war. At the time the property was loat lie waa in the Survey Office. The female clothing claimed for belonged to his Bister. He was told by some natives living at the settlement that the house waB broken into by soldiers. He had always been loyal.

CLAIM OF RTTKU KUAO. Former award, £15. Ruku Kuao deposed that he claimed for a horse which was taken from Eaglan by the soldiers. He had taken the horse to Raglan, before the commencement of the war. The war had begun in the "Waikato before lie left Baglan. He w»s making si road between Raglan and Whatawhata when the horse was taken, He s*w a soldier riding the horse, and spoke to an officer about it, but he had his sword drawn, which frightened him. The horse was about four years old.

CLAIM OF HEKABE K(JATtrWT. Former award, £16. Henare Ngatuwi deposed that lie had always been loyal. Ihe canoes he lost were at Port Waikato. He paid £i for one, and £5 for the other. They were not at all damaged. The canoes were broken up by Captain Lloyd. He did not see the canoes broken up, but was told of it by another native. He also loßt seven pigs which, were running in the settlement. He had sold one for £1 ss. A large number of soldiers were stationed at the settlement. The Court then adjourned until Friday.
