CUSTOMS REVENUE.
In tbe return of the Customs revenue for the quarter ©nded March SI, published in the Gazette of May 7, we find that of Auokland to be— Spirits, £10,764 > cigars and snuff, £275; tobacco, £3,801 ; sheepwash tobacco, £11 j wine, £879 ; ale and beer, in wood, £154 ; ale and beer, in bottle, £475 j tea, £2,585 ; coffee and cocoa, £327 ; coffee, roasted, £9 ; sui?ar and molasses, £3,446 ; shot,£ll ; goods by measurement, £2,699; ditto, weight, £1,013 ; ad valorem, £30; other duties, £294. Total, £26,773. The other parts of this province where revenue has been colleoted are Russell and Mangonui, with totals of £310 and £166 respectively. On comparison with the corresponding quarter of 1867, we find a decrease of £4,567 in the receipts at Auokland. £108 at Bu«sell, £130 at Kaipara, and £159 at Mangonui. Total decrease, £4,964. The returns from Hokianga were not to hand at the time of publishing the Gazette. The total revenue for Wellington is given at £15,245, and for the corresponding of 1867 £18,648; decrease, £3,403. For Greymouth, first quarter 1868, £10,875; 1867, £14,493; decrease, £3,618. For Hokitika, £22,406, against £30,182; decrease, £7,776. For Lyttelton, £21,969, against £28,021 ; decrease, £6,052. For Dunedin, £51,651, against £53,168; decrease, £1,517. The total revenue derived from tbe Customs for the first quarter of 1868 is £194,273, against £220,183 for the corresponding quarter of 1867. Thh exhibits a decrease of £25,910, equivalent to about £100,000 ayear. From the above returns we perceive that the decrease per cent, in the several ports is as follows : — Dunedin, about 3 ptr cent. ; Auckland, 14* ; Wellington, 194 5 Lyttelton, 22 ; Greymouth and Hokitika, each 25.
