Tms following appears in a Provincial Government Gazette Extraordinary published last evening:— City Commissioners' Office, Auckland, April 16, 1868. Sir,— l have the honour to enclose herewith copy of a resolution, passed at a meeting of the Royal Reception (Executive) Committee held yesterday, with reference to a day being set apart for affording the people of this province an opportunity ol expressing their gratitude for the safe recovery of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, to which I beg to refer, and to express the hope that your Honor will comply with the request therein made. -.Ihave,*c, John Ogilvxe, Secretary. Eeaolved, "Thab this committee, having heard the statement made by his Honor the Superintendent, and also having heard the letter from hia Excellency the Governor read, deeply regret th« circumitances which have led to the unavoidable abandonment of the arrangements contemplated for giving expression to their feelings towards the Crown and Prince, and suggest that a day be set apart for affording the people of this province an opportunity of expressing their gratitude and joy for the safe recovery of his Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh from the effects of the attack made upon him, and that the 29th of this month be suggested to hia Honor for that purpose."
