HIS EXCELLENCY'S VISIT TO THE BAY OF ISLANDS.

His Excellency the Governor will leave to-day in the * Brisk ' for the Bay of Islands, to be present at the great native meeting to take place on Friday fint. The ' Sturt' will also leave at the same time, with the Hon. J. C. Richmond and several other gentlemen. We believe that the Earl of Pembroke will accompany his Exoellency in the 'Brisk, m the event of hu chattered yacht— now being cleaned in Freeman's Bay— not being in readiaess. The ' Taurang* ' leares* on Thursday morning, and will reach the Bay in time for the native meeting, at which there will be a large gathering. It is expected that the 'Tauranga will be well patronised, and we daresay that many of the old settlers of Auckland will avail themselves of this opportunity to visit the time-honoured scene of their earliest connection with this colony, and renew their acquaintenance with most of the celebrated men still living amongst the Ngapubis, who may be expected to be present at the great meeting. We believe that, if it U the desire ©f the passengers, every facility will be given for an inspection of theKawnkawa coalmines, the 'Tauranga 'delaying its departure till Saturday for that purpose. The certainty that these mines will yet prove \n important element in the wealth of the province, and the fact that they have lately passed into the hands of a joint-stock company, will no doubt induce many to pay a visit at this time to the Bay. mmm _
