HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS WILL NOT VISIT NEW ZEALAND.

His Excellency the Governor, at an early hour on Saturday morning, gent us the following information : — -. The Governor has received letters from Syjdney by this mail, confirming what he had been told by the last mail, viz., that the Duke of (Edinburgh had been unanimously advised by the medical men attendant on him that his health would not permit him to encounter the fatigues of a visit to "New Zealand, and that he should go straight to England. JH.R.H. writes to the Governor that he loig combated this advice, and wishes it to be known that he deeply regrets being ol liged,t° abandon his visit to New Zealand 01 the present occasion, from which he had ci peoted to derive the most sincere gratification. - He looked forward with deep interest j to visiting the Maqris as well as the Europe ans, and fully intended to have carried out the programme which had been submitted to him by the G-overnor, and whichincluded visits toj all the principal places in both the North and the Middle Island. His Royal Highness's letter to the Governor was dated March 21, but reached Auckland only on the 10th April ;. the Duke is very desirous , that his disappointment at being precluded from visiting them, and his good wishes for their future welfare, should be made known to both the colonists and the Maoris. His Excellency the Governor, desires to make public that he received a further letter from the Prince, per 'Novelty,' which arrived this morning, dated March 30, stating that his Royal Highness was progressing favourably, and was to leave direct for England at the end of the week (April 4).

The Sydney Morning Herald of the 27th ultimo says :— "His Royal High a ess, we are happy to say, continues to improve in health daily. Yesterday he felt quite strong and well a^aiu. Early in the day he went on board the ' Galatea,' and about midday his Exoellency the Gorernor paid him an official visit. His Excellency was receired with manned yards, and every mark of respect due to the representative of the Queen. His .Royal Highness entertained a distinguished party of ladie? and gentlemen at luncheon on board his ship, including his Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Belmore, the Commodore aiid Mrs. Lambert, Miss Gladstone, and the gentlemen attached to the suite of his Royal Highne.-s and that of the Governor. His Excellency the Governor left the ship shortly after three o'clock, the usual salute being fired as he was pulled towards th* shore. His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh returned to Government House shortly afterwards. The health of his Royal Highness it so satisfactory that he requires but little assistance from hit medical attendant, and the issue of bulletins has already ceased." The Sydney Mail of the 28th remarks :— " The recovery of the Prince has been rapid, and it seems probable that no serious inconvenience will result from the wound. He will probably carry the bullet scar with him to his grave, but he will nob be permanently disabled in any bone or muscle. All things considered, this is a wonderful escape, and one for which he ai well as the colonists may rightly feel thankful."
