CRICKET.

AUCKLAND CRICKET CLUB Y. THE GARRISON.

ON'Saturday last a match was played in the Albert Barracks between the above clubs. Wickets pitched at 11 o'clock. The Auckland, winning the toss, sent their opponents to the wickets, Messrs, Hawkins and Keleher appearing to the bowling of Messrs. Horan and Leggett, who made a considerable stand, when Eelehec was disposed of by Mr. Horan, after placing 7 to his name, the first wicket fulling for 19 ruus, the 2nd for 27, the 3rd for 31, the 4th for 42, the sth for 56, the 6th, 7th, and Bth for 58, the 9fchfor 62 ; of which, Hawkins played a good innings of 27, before being well caught to the long off by Mt. H. Williamson. Messrs. Alpe and Moss then put in an appearance, on the part of the Auckland team, to the bowling of Messrs. Hamley and Keleher, when Moss soon fell a victim to the bowling of Keleher, only placing 1 to his score. Mr. Yates having joined Mr. AJpe, some good batting was looked for j both were playing in good form, when Keleher again upset the wickets, and requested the retirement of Mr. yates, when he had well placed 11 runs to his name, the score showing two wickets for 18 runs. Mr. Masefield now joined, and commenced by a fine hit for 5, when he found K-leher too much for him, and retired and made way for Mr. Newby, whose career was shortened by Mr. Hamley, who splendidly caught a sharp cut to third man the first ball. Messri. Horan, Leggett, and Kayner were rather summarily disposed of by Mr. Hamley, whose bowling was at this time remarkably good. Mr. Williamson settled the matter for himself by hitting his wricket, making room for Gleeson, who, after pUeing 1 to hit name, retired, the score showing34for 9 wickets. The tenth man, Mr. Alston, then came forward, and rapidly added 10 to the score ; when Mr. Eaine<?, fancying he took too much liberty with his ground, convinced him by stumping him, the icore h»viDg reached 47, of which 5 were byes, &o. The Garrison again took to the willow, and succeeded in placing 119 to their score, Messrs. Hawkins, Pearaon, and Hamley largely contributing, leaving the Auckland to obtain 135 runs. Messrs. Alpe and Yates first came to the wickets, and soon separated, placing only sto the score ; Mr. Alpe soon retiring after Mr. Mtsefield had joined him, when the score showed 22 for two wickets. Mr. Alston, who followed, took to skying, and shortened hia innings. Mr. Newby joined Mr. Masefield, and tome good batting was shown, and under their steady care the score was rapidly advancing, when time was called, Mr. Masefield having placed 25, and Mr. Newby 14, making 62 runs for three wickets down, tearing 72 rum to be made to win. The match was therefore decided in favour of the Garrison by the firsb innings. There is little doubt that, if time had permitted, it would have been a close game. The fielding of the Garrison was remarkably good, while in that of the Auckland there was decided room for improvement. Mr. Horan bowled well, but the ground (not a first-rate wicket) being against fast bowling, made it less effective than usual. The wicket was very ably kept by Mr. Newby. The ground bring marked with flags, showed that tne spectators only required to know the boundary to keep a fair field.
