The s.s. 'Auckland' arrived in harbour yesterday morning from Sydney, after a remarkably quick passage, and biings the English mail, via Suez, with dates up to the 1 6th October. From the telegraphic intelligence, which we print elsewhere, it will be seen tbat war on the Continent is impending between France, and Borne, and Italy, and Prussia. Garibaldi, whilst organising an attack upon Home, was arrested by the Italian Government, who are bound by pledges and treaties to respect the Papal territory. The Fenian movement is occasioning some disturbance and loss of life in England. Money still remains a glut in the market, and a dead-lock is reported to have occurred owing to the absence of all means of its employment. m The Duke of Edinburgh was at Adelaide at the date of our last advices, and from the programmes already arranged for his Royal Highness's amusement during his visit to the sister colonies of Victoria, Sydney, and Tasmania, it will not be possible for the Duke to pay his promised visit to Auckland at so early a date as appears to have been expected. According to a Sydney contemporary "the Prince seems to have gone very heartily into the arrangements provided for him at Adelaide, and there appears to have been as little exclusiveness as possible in the arrangements made by those in authority. He was not monopolised by a select circle, who kept him from the eyes of the vulgar. This was a good example to set, and one that we hope will be generally followed."
