"ONE OF AUCKLAND."

To the Editor of thoDAiLT Southmn Cross. Sib,— Verily, this " Auckland's Atom" is not himself a Solomon, and appears to have more of brass than gold in his own composition, or he would not so garble my letter. And it would even take a wiser than Solomon to prove that people acting under a rebel flag show no indications of being rebels. Neither is it because our Superintendent happens to be an old and highly esteemed friend of mine, that I should agree with all he says and does. If his Honor could not bring the natives to terms his way, surely it is better to try their way, which is by letting them alone. " Atom" is evidently modest in not giving his name (which is customary when you attack a correspondent who does), but his little effusion has doubtless amused himself, and does me no harm. — I am, &c., J« Cbispe. Auckland, November 9, 1867.
