CORN AMD FLOUR EXPORTS TO GREAT BRITAIN.
To the Editor of the Daily Sovthbsn Cfttss. Sib, — I addressed you on the abore-mentioned subject some little time ago. Since then the home advices have continued to show a constantly increasing improvement in the market for breadstuff's. My object in addressing you at present is to call the attention of those who may contemplate shipping grain or flour to England to an observation or two on the corn trade in that country, drawn from considerable practical experience. I have invariably observed that, for a few months after harvest, particularly about from the middle of October till the middle of December, or tip till the Christmas holidays, there is a large demand for all good dry qualities of flour. The principal reason of this is, that many of the millers use, at this period, a large proportion of fine d?y foreign flour for bolting along with flour made from raw country wheat, in order to impart to it strength and consistency. In ordinary seasons this demand is generally met by a liberal supply of American barrels, but, this description being this s&ason quite out of the market, I believe there will be a large and steady demand for the shipments of C*lifornian, Chilian, and Adelaide flour, which may come to hand at the time I have mentioned. Besides this, there is sure to be a large demand for fine dry wheats for the manufacture of the best qualities of flour, as the finest samples of country wheat for many months after harreat require a large admixture of foreign, to produce the requisite quality. As it is very possible that the names of the leading London corn factors may not be known or accessible at this distance, I beg to subjoin a list of a few of the highest standing :—: — Begbie, Young, and Begbies ; Kingsford and Lay ; John Ashlin and Son ; Coventry, Sheppard, and Co. In conclusion, I would advise that all intended shipments of flour should be made as early as possible, in order to arrive at the most favourable season.— I am, &0., Ex-Cokn Pactob.
