OTAHUHU. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) July 13.

Constable Negus, of this settlement, apprehended a man, giving the name of Thomas Knowles, late yesterday, upon several charges of obtaining goods by false pretences from storekeepers and others at Ofcahahu. He will be taken to Onehunga, and brought before J, J. Symonds, Esq., Kesident Magistrate. In riding from Howick to Pan mure in the early part of this week; I was much surprised to observe , the road between these settlements in such _ a bad state j and, certainly, if the Pakuranga Highway Board does not pay immediate attention to the repairs needed, the road will, in many places, be impassable very soon. Your Howick correspondent drew attention to this matter not long since, but, up to the time of writing, 1 have heard of no steps being taken to remedy the evil. Through the continued indisposition of Colonel De Quincey from the fever-in-ague (an Indian complaint), I much fetr our Auckland members will be minus one of their number during the present session,
