HOB ART TOWN.
The approach of a holiday generally unsettles business for at least the day preceding, and to-day has been no exception to the rule. Business hai been very dull on the wharves, and we have heard of no salea of importance. The arrival of the •Southern Cross' has placed us in possession of two days' later news from Melbourne, and also with news from Sydney and other colonies, but it is not of a character to alter prices. Meanwhile flour is sold at the mills at from £10 to £10 10s per ton, with a fair amount of local trade doing. The wheat market is firmer, owing to the fact that very little grain is at present coming forward, »nd stocks are extremely light. Sales of small parcels, hare been made, during the past two days, at 4s 6d per bushel, but we have no reason tobelieve that this price would hold should any largequantity be pushed forward. Sharps are now quoted at from £6 to £7 per ton, and bran at from Is to Is 2d per bushel. There is no demand for oats, and the price quoted is from 2s 6d to 3s per bushel. The crop of Tasmanian hops has nearly all been bought up for the Victorian market, and a very small quantity remains unsold. We are informed that our own brewers have begun to appreciate the excellence of the hops £,rown in this colony since Victorians have bestowed so much attention upon them ; and, in all probability, there will in future years be a good local demand. Pressed hay is net in very active demand, and the price continues at from £3 5s to £3 10s per ton. Other produce is without change. Potatoes, £3 103 to £4 per ton ; onions, £3 10s to £4 per ton ; butter, Is 3d to Is 4d per lb. ; oheese, 8d to Is 3d per lb. — Mefcwry, April 19.
