The Daily Times of the 11th contains the following commercial report : — The transactions in the import market during the Tfreek have been rery light in extent, £dBß&sing B© little interest as scarcely to furnish occasion for notice. However, the demand for miscellaneous stock for up-country requirements and for despatch coastwise has imparted a little appearance of animation to trade. In the market for imported flours the sales have been confined to trade parcels, with the exception of the quitting previously noticed of a parod of about eighty tons of (South Australian. Chilian and Calif or man, of which the stock is moderate, realises, in small lots, £13 10s to £14 10s ; South. Aus« tralian, £15 10s to £16 j protinoial, fill to £12. Teas and sugars have not been dealt in to any extent, the ooming auction sales operating in retarding private transactions. Prices remain firm. In bulk ales* the smallness of the business done is attributable to the non-arrival of the new brew, for which the trade are waiting. Some clearing-out sales have occurred ; but the quantity left on band is small as compared to the stocks of old beers of previous seasons, while the same unwillingness to buy old sound beers is manifested. Bottled ales are in a very slack demand, and bottled stouts less in request tbap previously. Nothing of importance is doing in spirits, and, notwithstanding that recent advices are favourable, buyers have not been inclined to operations larger than for mere requirements. Good provisions (bacon and hams) are gradually lightening in stock, and are mainly held by one house; the asking rate is Is 4d for both, or Is 6d for hams only, duty paid. Cheese remains as last noticed. Butter slightly improving; a parcel of cork, to arrive, has been offered at a shade of reduction on current rates ; but for lots for prompt delivery, full prices are demanded The values of staples not referred to are unaffected by late arrivals or advices, and close as nearly as possible as last given.
