Adelaide, July 16. I The banks have raised the rates of discount to 9 per cent, for two months' bills, and 10 percent, for three months' bills. Also in discount accounts to * very considerable amount. Business is consequently very dull, and merchants regard the immediate future very gloomily. ' There is no fine sugar on the island except the stock held by Joshua, Brothers, and they are sending it in fortnightly cargoes to Melbourne. Quotations are nominal ; second quality yellow crystals, 7 dollars lsocents to 7 dollars 75cents per 1001b. ; good yellow counters, 6 dollars 50 cents to 6 dollars . 75 cents. The new crop of sugar is estimated to yield 160,000 tons, tbe largest for five or six years past. The 'Ziska' sailed on the 9th June for Sydney, and has on board 180 tons of sugar purchased at high prices. No demand for shipping.
