The busiuess of the week just closed has exhibited but little improvement upon that of its predecessor, the import market still maintaining a quiet aspect, and trade amongst dealers being without any animation. The existence of a fair demand for miscellaneous stock for export has, however, kept business, from being absolutely dull. Flour has been but little traded in, though prices have not shown any alteration, or holders anything less of firmness ; and in the absence of any advice as te shipments from South America, the market has no inclination towards improvement. Provisions are still disposed of in small parcels only, at the high prices recently quoted ; but in the absence of any considerable parcels in importers' hands, it is difficult to say what price newly-arrived shipments would command. In teas, the business done has been trifling, and calling for no especial notice. Sugars have also been quiet, prices having shown rather easier figures. In the market for malt liquors scarcely any variation is to be noted, a shipment of bulk beers to Melbourne and the despatch of a few hogsheads elsewhere being the only signs of life in the heavy trade ; however, porters and ales in bottle have continued its fair inquiry, and sales have been made at rates fully kept up to recent quotations. The bareness of the stocks of building materials keeps the market with an upward tendency for the two important items of timber and iron.
