Trade still remains very dull, and with the exception ' of consumable goods, there ia very little of any thing changing hands. At auction-Bales for cash, exceedingly low prices are realized. Large stocks of soft goods, and of all kinds of imports are in storo, and still in first hands. Maori produce iB coming in steadily, principally from the East Coast, and indeed this trade seems the most lively at present, as the natives are anxious to sell, and have been investing proceeds in European goods, principally agricultural implements. No distrust or alarm seems to exist amongst these natives in coraequence of the present aspect of affairs. Mr. W. Hunter reports, that a large number of cattle were driven into Ins Yard on Thursday last, much of which met with purchasers at good prices. For beef the prices obtained were about those of the previous week. Bullocks and cows bringing from £10 to £14 12s. 6d. Store cattle were also plentiful, and sold well, bringing in lots from £5 to £7 2s. 6d. Dairy cows were in demand, and several lots sold at prices ranging from £10 ss. to £15 17fl. 6d. for milkers, and from £6 to £8 10s. for store stock. Sheep sold at about former rates, bringing from £1 to £1 4s.
The Harvest at Otago. — The crops are now nearly all secured, the weather during the present month hay ing been all that could be desired for the purpose. Tho accounts we have leceived of the yield are somewhat contiadiotory ; but from all wo can gather it would appear that while an increase in the quantity of land brought under cultivation has taken place to the extent of perhaps 15 per cent., the yield, owing to the long-continued diought, has, taking the averago of all crops, decreased in about the same proportion, bringing it to about the same as last year. ,In eomo localities, however, Tokamairiro for example, we are informed that the yield of wheat has been more abundant than in any previous year. — Otago Colonist, March 30,
