Air Force Band Loses Instruments

(Received October 28, 7 p.m.) . SYDNEY, October 28. A lorry containing instruments valued at £3OOO, the property of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, was driven away from College Street in the city last night by thieves. The lorry was parked near the Anzac Buffet, and during the temporary absence of the driver, two men were seen to enter it and drive away. The police say this is one ot the largest robberies of its kind in Australian crime history. Wireless patrol curs and all police were immediately put on the alert for the stolen lorry. • . The Now Zealand Air Foret) Band was to have given an open-air peiformance at 'Ruslieutters Bay Park last night, but it was cancelled because of rain. The concluding Sydney appearance, is scheduled for Sydney Town Hall tonight. The baud has visited more than 50. towns in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales in support of the fourth Victory Loan. .
This afternoon the lorry, with the instruments and 200 scores of music* was found intact at Cabramatta, about 20 miles from Sydney. The performance which the band was to have given at Bondi today had to bo cancelled but the Sydney Police Band and a number of other local bands had
offered to lend their instruments and music to the New Zealanders so that their performance at Sydney Town Hall tonight would be fulfilled. However, ns the instruments and music are intact the New Zealanders were able to give the performance .with their own equipment.
