WEDDINGS

Bates—Lewis In St. Mary's Church, New Plymouth, the wedding took place recently, of Joan Winifred Dowden, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Lewis, Ahiti, and Peter Watson, younger son of Mr. and the late Mrs. T. 11. Bates. New Plymouth. The Ven. Archdeacon G. H. Gavin'officiated. The bride, who was escorted by ner father wore a gown of ivory satin with bishop sleeves and a long, appliqued train. Her heirloom Brussels lace veil anti her diamond and pearl pendant had been worn by her mother on her wedding day. She also wore a pearl brooch, the gift of her mother. The lace veil was arranged over a long silk-embroidered veil. She carried white azaleas, camellias, hyacinths, winter roses and fern The matrons of honour. Mrs. A. H. D. Lewis and Mrs. W. P. Davidson, were frocked alike in daffodil yellow silk taffeta. Each wore an amber necklace, the gift of the bridegroom. Trails of small daffodils in their hair matched their bouquets. The flower girl, Barbara Parsons, niece of the bridegroom, was similarly dressed and carried a gold basket of ’ primroses and freesias. She wore a gold bracelet, a present from the bridegroom. The best man was L/Ac. A. H. D. Lewis, brother of the bride, and Mr. D. A. Elliot was groomsman. Mrs. F. Harrington sangj "I’ll Walk Beside You.” As the bride left the church she was presented with a .floral horse shoe by Barbara Burton.

A reception was held in “Mon Desir” tearooms. The heart-shaped wedding cake was made by the bride's mother. For travelling the bride wore an ice blue pin-tucked two-piece suit, with matching felt hat. She carried a fur coat, a gift from the bridegroom. Mr. and Mrs. P. Bates will live in New Plymouth.

Patterson —King

. An all-Air Force wedding took place at St. Andrew’s Church, AVellington, recently, when Flying Officer H. AV. B. (Pat) Patterson, youngest son of Air. and Airs. L. AV. Patterson. AVairoa, married Beatrice Stuart ' King, youngest (laughter of Airs. H. Stuart King, “Demronlea,” East Taratahi, Alastertou, and the late Rev. G. Stuart King. Followed by her two attendants Airs. A. Stuart King and Aliss Beryl Aliller, frocked in powder blue piu-spot muslin and carrying cyclamen flowers, the bride entered the church wearing traditional white satin embossed with tiny daisies, a circlet of orange blossom holding her tulle veil. Flight Lieutenant D. Patterson, Wairoa, and Flight Lieutenant J. Alacneil, Tiki Tiki, were best man and groomsman respectively. ’Flying Officer Patterson recently returned from overseas, where he was a member of the New Zealand 485 Spitfire Squadron, which operated from England, and later on the Continent. He was one of the first pilots over the Normandy beach-head, covering the invasion on D-day. The bride, a Section Officer in tne AVAAF, was recently released after three years’ service.
