Street Preachers
Sir,—ln reference to (he subject of street preaching, it seems your correspondent R. E. Baxter will not be convinced that preaching is not praying. In the verse quoted, Matt. 6. 5, our Lord does not mention preaching, but warns against praying in the streets to be seen of men. St. Paul preached in the streets, and so probably did all the apostles. The theme ’of the Gospel is so great—God’s love to man in Christ — that we need not be ashamed of it. E. F. Grealhead misses the point also in objecting to the word “compel,” for it is not the preacher who compels but God, and it is the compulsion of love.—l am, etc., “JOHN 3.1(1.” 'Wellington, September 24.
