UNIONS’ PROPOSAL
National Transport Board

The Trade Union Congress, in a statement on the plans for nationalization of transport, recommends the creation of a national transport authority, which would be responsible for the .efficient operation of the transport services. The statement also proposes that immediate steps should be taken to pass tra Act' acquiring for permaneut public operation the railways, main caijnls. certain sections plroad haulage, and those intefual airways that were permitted to function during the war. ‘
The statement adds that power tfl control all transport, services t.h;if are. not immediately requirrij should bi? retniupd. The proposed transport authority would be responsible to the Mifii'ster'of Transport, taking the form of n public' corporation with i) chairman chosett lor bis proved ability to conduct large-scale undertakings. The other members should be appointed by the Ministers for their experience.
