Work On Giant Telescope
(Received September 4, 10.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 4.
Work on the 200-inch telescope at Pasadena, California, which was begun, in 1930 and halted by the war will be resumed in November. It is hoped to have the ‘big eye” seeking the depths of space by June, .1947, from the observatory on" top of Mt. Palqmnr. The main job ahead is the grinding of the huge glass disc. Dr. Max Mason said: “With such a telescope we will learu the life history ‘of the whole universe. Scientists say that the “big eye” will not wrest the secrets from elose objects-Hke the moou and the planets, but will euable observers to detect remote celestial objects.
