HAWERA, October 19, Though threatening, the weather remained fine this morning for the gallops of AVavcrlev-engaged horses. The plough was In first-class order and most of the fast work was performed on it. Good efforts were credited to Clarice, Battledress, Aiderman, Drambuie, Mr. Cute, Dymondy. Silver Chain (Potroz) finished two lengths in front of Black Salve at the end of five furlongs in 1.5. This w-as improved on by Mr. Cute (Potroz) and Sublime I'ox (George), who registered 1.4 after covering tlie first three furlongs in 38). Comrade (Lewis) going nt .a strong pace to the three furlongs, sprinted home in 3« 2 'ciarice (George), after a slow beginning displayed brilliancy over the last three furlongs to register 49) for half a mile. Dvripndy (Potroz) galloped five furlongs in 1.4, the last three in 38). ' Alderman (Lewis) sprinted three furlongs comfortably in 37). r,„mo The Waverlej’ Cup candidates Battledress (Holland) and Peter’s Choice (Potroz) were companions over bye furlongs and registered 1.3 1-5. , On the outsldefof the course proper with the pegs 40 feet out, Queen Melody (Potroz) ran half a mile in 54 3-o. Drambuie (Holland) sprinted three furlongs in 37) and Captain Crusoe (George) went a similar journey in 40. tv-x, L. J.
