OVER RIVER BARRIER
Road To Bologna LONDON, October 19. Canadian troops of the Eighth Army have crossed a, strongly defended river barrier on the main highway to Bologna from the Adriatic. The crossing was made in the upper reaches of the Rubicon near Cesena, on which Eighth Army forces are closing in. In the central sector Fifth Army troops have made further gains in their drive nearer Bologna, while South Africans have captured several important hill features.
Cesena, on the Rimini-Bologna road, was where the Germans formerly had their headquarters, says Reuter’s correspondent in Italy, Punjab troops and Canadians are both two miles outside the town.
