DRILLING FOR OIL
GISBORNE, October 19. A bulletin announcing the closing of the first Westland well has been issued by the N.Z. Petroleum Company : “The Notown No. 1 Well was completed at a depth of 6942 feet in basement rocks on September 30 with negative results. The Cobden limestone formation which was penetrated between 6733 feet and 6550 feet wus tested and produced only still water and carbon-dioxidc gas.”
