VISITORS ARRIVE

Big Team From South FURTHER APPEAL BY P. LOUIS (By St. Simon.) There was no fast work at Trentham yesterday, all horses being confined to pace work. A blustering northerly wind blew all morning and there was heavy rain during the afternoon. Qyernight arrivals were Alright, Ann Bank and Behave, from Wanganui. 'Twenty-two horses arrived from the south. 'The contingent comprised Amorlad, Air Ace, Deep Harmony, Belle Leonne, Vafort, , Lord Roland, Foxhaven, Chicago, Kevin, I Beau Cheval, Pensacola, Piccolo, John Gay, Irish Note, Debater, Honest Sal, Maggiore, Gulf Stream, The Vulture, Kiloney, Albino and Gold Spur. Aucklanders due to arrive last evening were Representative, Lord Chancellor, Beau Volo, Beau Dink and Gay Chat. On the same train were Bueno, Grey. Salute and Sir Standfast, from Hamilton, and the Trentham-trained Tifox returning from his unsuccessful attempt to win the Great Northern Gulneae. Some of the trainers who had horses racing at Masterton on Saturday have remained there and will come on tomorrow. Among them are G. W. New's team, who will have their final gallops at Opakl this morning. Latest withdrawals from the Wellington meeting are: Pern (Glen Hurdles), Count Roger (October Handicap), Irish Tor (Wellesley Stakes), Daniel Haigh (ail engagements), and Erin’s Pal (Wellesley Stakes).

For tile Sprint. • One of the stars of August racing In Christchurch was Gulf Stream, who won the Brabazon Handicap and Winter Cup. He arrived in Wellington yesterday to fulfil engagements at Trentham, where he. has two engagements on' the first day, the Walnut Handicap, one mile, and the Shorts Handicap, six furlongs. According to a Rlecarton report. Gulf Stream’s mission is to be the Shorts Handicap. On the occasion of bls last visit to Trentham Gulf Stream was narrowlv beaten by Sir Bradbury in the Stewards’ Handicap, six furlongs, and was under a disability as he Injured a leg a few days before the race and could not be given a final gallop. Wonderful Recovery.

Lambourn was among the workere at Trentham yesterday. He has made a remarkable recovery from the tendon Injury he received during the running ot the Hawke's Bay Cup last autumn. The tendon was badly severed, and for weeks the horse was lame, and it was thought that he would never race again. Today he looks a better horse than at any stage of his career, and is a credit to the patient care ot his trainer, C. J. Stowe, who nursed him back to the stage where he could be put into training, and the. recent racing he has had has proved beneficial to his condition.

A Guineas Winner. Judging by his appearance, Alright has done well since winning the Wanganui Guineas last month. He worked freely on the plough at Trentham yesterday, and Is bearing a well-trained appearance. Alright is one, ot the most long-striding thrCe-year-olds seen racing this season and might not be suited by soft ground (which may be eneountered'at the weekend as the weather is unsettled), but there is no question of his ability on firm going.

A Lot of Travelling. ■' Master Ted has had a lot of travelling lately, having made the trip from New Plymouth to Auckland and back for the Great Northern Guineas, and then on to Wellington. However, he is a sound and hardy individual, and should prove capable of running another good race on Saturday. Taking a line through My Bonnie, whom he ran to a close decision on Saturday, Master Ted should hold good prospects in the Welllugton Guineas if he is as fit a horse as he was at Ellerslie.

Mixed Opinions. A Timaru writer states that High Play did not lose any friends by his failure to win the Flying Handicap at Washdyke ou Saturday. A Christchurch writer considers that following his failure it is doubtful whether High Play will be brought? to Trentham for the Shorts Handicap. Hard to Beat.

“Sentinel” in the “Otago Daily Times” says John Gay has been improving in racing condition, and will be a hard horse to beat in his engagements at Trentham this weekend.

Overdue Success. When Amorlad won ’ the main event at Timaru on Saturday he scored his first win since Mr. D. McFarlane purchased him for £lOOO about 15 months ago. Following the Grand National meeting Amorlad was transferred to A. E. Dldham’s stable at Wlngatui and the trainer rode him on Saturday. Amorlad has ' engagements at Trentham, but it is reported that Didham will not make the trip himself as he has a big team engaged at Gore on Monday. N.Z. Cup Weights. Handicaps for the New Zealand Cup are due to appear on October 25 (Wednesday next).

Change of Quarters. Phaleron, owned by Dr. A. McGregor Grant, Auckland, is to be trained in future by L. Dulieu, at New Plymouth.

Back in Hastings. Skyhawk aud Kilraanagh, who were unsuccessful at the 2kuckland spring meeting, have returned to Hastings. They were accompanied by Travaucore, who developed soreness after winning the Harris Hurdles at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting at Ellerslie in August. Skyhawk is an acceptor for the Shorts Handicap at Trentham on Saturday and is a duobtful starter.

Appeal Lodged. Mr. P. Louis, Wellington, yesterday lodged an appeal with the Racing Conference against the decision of the Wellington District Committee dismissing his appeal against the six months’ disqualification imposed on him by the judicial committee of the Otaki Maori Racing Club in connexion with the running of Caithness in the Ling Memorial Handicap at Otaki on October 7. and increasing the term of -disqualification to one year. Appeals are also to be lodged this week by H. A. Telford, trainer, and J. McFarlane, jockey. The appointment of three appeal judges is the responsibility of the president of the Racing Conference, Mr, H. K. Chalmers, who also fixes the date of bearing. Broiedame At Kllerslto.

The Taranaki-owned filly Eroiedame is now under the care of F. E. MeManemin, at Ellerslie. Broledatne had five starts last season,, winning the last two which included the Plunket Nursery nt Trentham. In the meantime she has had a spell and is in nice order to undergo another preparation. Broiedame is a big filly by Broicfort from Lucky Alice, thus a full sister to Broievelne, and she is owned by Messrs. J. Somerton and J. McNeill, New Plymouth. Rider Asks for Inquiry. G. S. Barr, rider of Roman Son in the Otaio Hurdles in the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Washdyke on Saturday, asked for an inquiry on the grounds that L. C ox » husband of the owner, Mrs. L. Cox, had accused him of pulling Roman Son up in the race. After hearing evidence the Judicial committee decided that no action be taken.
