MRS. FRASER A GUEST AT PAEKAKARIKI MEETING

The October monthly meeting of the Packakariki Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs. Stedman, was one of the most interesting and instructive yet held, and was open to the public. Mrs. P. Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister, was a special guest. On display was au exhibition of arts and crafts, needlework, toys aud articles made by-pupils of the correspondence school, a great number ot whom were erippled children. The work typified the patience aud courage shown by those who were physically handicapped One example was a pair of slippers, which had been woven entirely by a pupil who could use only the big. toe of her left foot. Miss Koss, who is a specialist for handicapped children, spoke on the work of the correspondence school, mentmning that there were 3500 pupils aud 147 teachers. Mrs. Fraser gave a talk on what she had learned of the activities of lhe women’s institutes durin" her recent trip to England. She said they played a large part in all affairs in Britain, being represented at each and any conference that was held. The institutes had always done useful work, but the war had greatly developed their usefulness, ‘and, of course, they would he asked to do their share in all post-war planning. Dlrs.
