SOUTHERN SUPPORT FOR FOXLEAP
CHRISTCHURCH, October 17
A large number of Riccarton horses were shipped to Wellington today and in consequence galloping this morning was restricted to those leaving on Thursday and to some of the horses eugaged at Ranglora next Monday. The trial grass was open and the going was fast. - , Foxleap was responsible for a solid effort over nine furlongs, covered in 2.9, the last six furlongs in 1.16. She Is very well at present and must be a formidable candidate in the Wellington Handicap, in which she has the handy weight of 7.10. Anchorage and Trueway were companions over a mile in 1.43, the last three, furlongs in 39 3-5, the former, finishing in' front. Anchorage will be ridden on Saturday by A. C. Messervy, and Trueway will have the services of C. Stokes.
John Gay ran six furlongs comfortably in 1.16, the last four in 50 1-5. He will be ridden on Saturday by C. T. Wilson, whose other mounts will be Foxhaven, Pensaeola, Kevin, Controller and Vafort. Gamble, who is to race at Rangiora on Monday, covered a mile in 1.424, the first half in 50 3-5. Irish Note went at an even pace over seven furlongs in 1.32, the first four in 52. He is to be ridden at Trentham by A. G. Waddell, who won on him at Riccarton last November. Findon is still at Riccarton. Probably he will be returned to Gisborne next week. L. J. Ellis went to Wellington today to take over Kindergarten and Golden Souvenir, and will bring them south after the Wellington meeting. Air Lord, trained by Ellis, will race at Rangiora. Even Calm, who had a fall after bolting at Washdyke, has since been destroyed.
