AGAIN THIS YEAR

Junior Tennis Coaching A decision to conduct a junior coaching scheme again this season was reached at a meeting of the mangeinent committee of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association, at which the chairman, Mr. H. L. YVise, presided. By steps which the committee proposes to take, it is hoped to be able to extend the echemo so as to cover a substantially greater number of juniors than last year. An endeavour will be made immediately to obtain a number of senior players to net as coachers, and after a short period of training insofar as the coachers are concerned so as to ensure uniformity iu methods of coaching, the coachers will then start with the coaching of juniors as from November 11. This coaching scheme' will then continue till approximately the end of the year, when there will be a vacation till the first week in February. It is r then proposed, provided the use of suitable courts cau be obtained, to continue the scheme in the various districts throughout the association’s area. Till the end of the year the scheme will be concentrated at city courts. The management committee is .considering holding an open tournament during tho Christmas-New Y’ear holiday period, the events to comprise singles, men’s aud. women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. It is contemplated that a junior tournament will also be held in conjunction with the open tournament, the events to comprise the same as in, the open tournament. / The committee gave a good deal of consideration at its meeting to the question of its post-war policy, with particular reference tu tlie rehabilitation of the association’s courts at Miramar, or alternalively, to. tbe possibility of securing a suit'able area more centrally situated. A special sub-committee was set up to go fully into the matter, this sub-committee comprising Messrs. H. L. YVise (convener), J. Neale, YV. H. Nichols, L. G. Rimmer, and A. J. YVilson. Seavlew Club and tlie Wellington College Old Girls’ Club were admitted to the association.
