SOLDIERS ON FARMS
Liability For Military Service “AU men of suitable age and military grading, irrespective of occupation, continue to be liable for overseas service and may be called on if military requirements so necessitate.” said the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, replying in the House yesterday to an urgent question by Mr. Murdoch (Opposition, Marsden). Reference had been made by Mr. Murdoch to a report. that, there was considerable concern among A Grade soldiers who had been manpowered on to farms over the- uncertainty of their employment. “While it is not intended at present to recall for military service farm workers who are still employed in the work to which they were directed when released from the Army, nevertheless it will be necessary for their cases to be examined from time to time by armed forces appeal boards to ensure that their services are essential in the public interest on the farms at which they are at present employed,” said the Prime Minister. “The urrangements in regard to recalling men fo service is contingent on the military situation continuing as at present. Obviously. however, it may be necessary to vary it if unexpected developments occur.”
