OBITUARY
Mr. W. F. Newcombe An old Karori identity, Air. AVilliam Fry Newcombe, died on Monday, aged 80 vears His name and that of bis wite (who is a daughter of Air. Stephen Lancaster) are perpetuated in the names or streets in that suburb. Air. Newcombe, who was born in Bideford. North Devon, England, came out to New Zealand in 1899, and after spending about a year in Christchurch decided to settle in Ayellington. In partnership with his brother he took up the business of storekeeping at Karori, and for some ten years or so served the place when it was a sparsely populated borough. Thereafter lie became a dairy-farmer in the district, aud continued in that occupation up to some 20 years ago. Mr. Newcombe was a member of the old Karori Borough Council, when the late Air. J. AV. Henderson was mayor, and was also a foundation member of the Karori Bowling Club. He leaves a widow and a family of four sons and two daughters. Ihe sous are Air. L. A. Newcombe. Palmerston North; the Rev. R. Newcombe, Duncdiu; Air. H. H. Newcombe, Hunterville; and Mr. F. L. Newcombe, who is serving with the forces overseas. Ibe daughters are Aliases E. A. aud G. lAevvcombe, Karori. The funeral service will be held at 11.30 a.m. today at St. Alary s, Karori, the church with which Air. Aewcombe was closely associated ever since its erection.
Rev. Father N. B. Moloney
The Rev. Father N. B. Moloney, whose death occurred recently at Sunnybank Boys’ Orphanage, Nelson, was educated at St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, and at the Aieanee Seminary, Hawke’s Bay. lie was later on the staff of St. Patrick s College, and at other times served at St. Mary of the Angels, Boulcott Street; St. Joseph’s. Ruckle Street: St. Marys, Christchurch; and also at Wanganui, Thorndon and Island Bay'. Father Moloney was a chaplain of the forces on the hospital ship Alaheno in the last war.
