Navy Rugby Tournament

In the first round of a Navy Rugby tournament played at Strand I ark. Lower Hutt, yesterday. Canterbury beat Wellington 8-6. The game was played In driving rain and the greasy ball was very well handled by both teams.. The standard of plav wns high amt the game proceeded at a bright pace. Canterbury impressed by plaj'lng more as a team than the Wellington representatives. but apart from this, there was little to choose between the two. Play began at a lively tempo, and within five minutes Naera, the VVellingtoD winger, had crossed Canterbury ,s line, but he misjudged his position and went over the dead-ball line. Shortly after, Martin made a fine opening and Greatback, 'velliugton’s half-back, made no mistake with his try. The kick failed. Canterbury made several strong attempts to deore, and when on the Wellington twenty-live were given a penalty kick which Firth sent squarely over the posts. Thorp was no further s-core till dose on half-time, waen Torn, after a headlong dash down the side of the field, ran behind the posts for a try. Firth converted, and the half-time score was Canterbury S, Wellington 3. In the second half Wellington tried hard to even, but it was not till close on time that. Nacra dashed over for a try In the corner. With only another three point* necessary for a win Wellington rallied for a final thrust, bur though Nacra went over in the corner for what appeared to be a try it was not allowed and the game ended!
