OUTFLANKING BID
Enemy Nears Kweilin
(Received September 28, 9 p.m.) CHUNGKING, September 27. One of two Japanese columns attempting to outflank Kweilin today neared Kungchong, 47 miles south-east of Kweilin. This outer Japanese column, based on Yungming, in the Hunan Province, has swung across the border into Kwangsi, in a southward sweep, reaching a point only 12 miles from Kungcheng. If the’ enemy advance were successfully extended it would cut the HunanKwangsi railway south of Kweilin and at the same time expose the city to direct assault from the north.
TARGETS IN CHINA
Super-Fortresses’ Work WASHINGTON. September 27. A 20th Air Force communique reports that the results of the mission b.v SuperFortresses against objectives at Anshan. Manchuria, are not conclusively known, since it was accomplished chiefly through heavy cloud cover. . It adds: “Simultaneously with the operations against Anshan, other SuperFortresses attacked dock areas at Dairen and military targets at Loyang and Kaifeng. in China. The observed results wore reported as good. Flak was weak and lighter opposition light. None of our planes was lost. Difficulty in communications with China bases has delayed the issuance of this tQtnmuuiqqe.
