NEW COMMITTEE TO BE NOMINATED
Masterton Transport Control Dominion Special Service. MASTERTON, September 25. The dissolution of the Mastertou Goods Transport Control Committee by the Minister of Transport was reported at a meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. The executive unanimously decided to renominate the two’ former farmers’ representatives, Messrs. James Andrew aud L. T. Daniell. A resolution expressing confidence in Messrs. Daniell and Andrew was carried unanimously. Mr. IV. J. Thomas, president, said the Maslerton Goods Transport Control Committee had objected to a local drover going on the committee and ou that account the Minister of Transport had “sacked” them. Tlie Dominion secretary, Mr. A. P. O’Sbc-a, forwarded a letter from the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. Laureusou, calling for fresh nominations for the committee. Mr. Thomas explained that Mr. Andrew was the -Farmers’ Union representative on tlie committee and Mr. Daniell was the representative ou the Live Stock Transport Advisory Committee which made recommendations to the transport committee. Mr. Alistair Williams .read to the meeting a letter written by Mr. A. W. McDonald of the Sbeepowners’ Federation, to the transport control committee drawing attention to tlie endeavour that was being made to give an ungazetted person equal voting rights with gazetted members. The Minister of Transport's hand, it was alleged, was being forced by a local union secretary and before a drover was allowed to take his seat 20 farmers should be nominated to give a proportionate representation. The Masterton committee was the only one in New Zealand so to be singled out.
