AUCKLAND, August 25.
Stakes totalling £9lOO, including a race each day of £lO9O, -1.34 class, will be distributed at tlic Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting at Epsom on October 21 and 23. Tlie chief sprint each day is wortli £750, the class on the first day being 2.49 and on the second day 2.48. No maiden events are scheduled, as the club will hold a matinee on October 7 with four of these, each valued at £2OO. All other classes are well catered for at the main meeting, and a pleasing feature is that eight races will be run at two miles. The chief trotting handicap on the first day has a stake of £650, 4.49 class, and the second day £750 and 4.47 class. The 3.30 pacers, have a race each day of £6OO. The prize money shows a good increase all round, suggesting that when the summer programme is announced the stakes for the cup and oilier big events may reach the high figures of 15 years ago.
