PANZER DIVISIONS LEAVING
Significant Moves In Italy ESCAPE PROBLEM (By Telegraph.—Press assn.—Copyright,) LONDON, August 24. A possible escape route for two German panzer divisions in northern Italy is believed to have been blocked as the result of an attack by Allied medium bombers on bridges in northern Italy yesterday afternoon, reports Reuter's correspondent at Allied headquarters. The panzer divisions were reported to be'heading for the Riviera beach-head, and were spotted massed at the small town of Settiino, north of Turin. Mitchells attacked two road bridges and the town and left impassable a road bridge 20 miles west of Turin near the Halo-French border. There is further evidence of a German withdrawal along the Arno bend west of Florence, and in the Prato Magno mountains east of the Arno bend there are also signs of a further limited withdrawal in the area north of AnghiarL On the Adriatic sector the battle for the Metauro River is now over, with the Allied forces firmly established along the river for 12 miles from Monte Maggiore to the Adriatic, says Reuter’s correspondent at Allied headquarters in Italy. The German losses were heavy. Nearly SOO prisoners were taken in the past 10 days of. fighting.
