Party At Lyceum Club

At the Lyceum Club, Wellington, on Tuesday, members of the penwbmen’s group of the club entertained the warsewing circle at afternoon tea, Mrs. J. C. Andersen and Mrs. E. M. Sample being joint hostesses. lu view' of the portentous news awaited with great expectancy from the Continent, the gathering sang the French national authem, “The Marseillaise,” followed by "God Save the King.” Mrs. David Herbert, president, who was presented with -a bouqeut of spring flowers, eulogized the work done by the sewing circle, under the leadership of Miss A. L. Howarth and Mrs. K. Conner. After pianoforte solos by Mr. 11. F. von Haast, a talk on the works of wellknown poets was given by Mrs. Von Haast, who quoted excerpts from various immortal poems. Original songs, written and composed by Eva Sample, Rosa Knight, Wanda Herbert, and Fanny Richardson, members of the penwomen’s circle, were sung by Mrs. Conner and Mrs. Herbert, Mr. Von Haast acting as accompanist. Posies were presented to Mrs. Sample and Mrs. Anderson, after which the gathering concluded with afternoon tea.
