TREATMENT OF JEWS
Hungarian Volte-Face (Received August 24, 11 p.m.) LONDON, August 24. A British and American statement that all persecutors of Jews in Hungary will be held responsible have caused a complete change in the situation, states the Exchange Telegraph’s Basle correspondent. A neutral diplomat stated that officials in Hungary are preparing an alibi against the Jew-baiting accusation by suddenly certifying that Jews have rendered. special services to Hungary’s economic and scientific life. The correspondent adds: ‘lt is no exaggeration to say that the step Mr. Churchill and President Roosevelt have taken has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews.
