Music And The News
Sir, — A. pitiful lack of imagination is displayed by those responsible for choosing the music played by the Y.A. stations before the London news. It is by no means uncommon to have Germans singing Austrian songs immediately before o rafter such broadcast, and a friend of mine who went as far as to . protest against this by telephone to a high official of the N. 8.5., was asked sarcastically. “Do you think it’s a plot?” No doubt the truth is that records are often selected without regard for their seemliness; nor is any adequate effort made on special occasions to choose music of significance. Tonight, when the news of the liberation of Paris came over the air at 11 P.m., would have been a suitable occasion for the French national anthem and some rousing marches. Instead. this historic announcement was introduced by a dance band .njnying boogie-woogie.—l am, etc., EXAsI GRATED. Wellington, August 23.
