Seddon Shield Match (By Telegraph ,—Pr'ess Association.) WESTPORT. August K!, In appointing Mr. ,1. Scott, Alanawatu, as .referee for next Saturday’s Seddon Shield match at Westport between Buller (holders) and Nelson (challengers), the New Zealand Rugby (Inion lias again departed from the usual custom of appointing a Canterbury referee when shield matches are held at the southern end of the Seddon Shield area, and a Wellington referee when the defender of the trophy is one of the northern unions. The impression among local followers is that the union is saving its face, and that io keep up the game it may have to appoint a referee from Otago or Southland when the Ranfiiriy Shield, is being confrsted in Auckland.
