PETER’S CHOICE RUNS GOOD FIVE
Dominion Special Service. HAWERA, August 22. The semifinal gallops lor Saturday’s racing were performed this morning under unpleasant conditions, a bitterly cold wind blowing against the horses over the last three furlongs. Faet work was mostly confined to gallops up to five furlongs, the wind militating against fast times. Tho course was holding. The trestles were 40ft. out. Greek Art (Mills) and Golden l Asli (-Moore) finished together at the end of five furlongs in 1.9 4-5. Beau Fox (Mills) went off in front of Master Francis (Moore) at the five furlongs, but the latter improved over the filial stages to be going better at the finish in 1.10 1-5. Master Francis has made improvement since coming under G. Moore’s care. Silver Chain (Mullins), appreciating the light weight, ran five furlongs in 1.9. Rebate (Clutterbuck) and Vermette (George), after covering the first two furlongs In 26, took 1.9) to complete five. From a slow beginning. Miss Corvette (Clutterbuck) and Houdini (Mullins) registered I.ll} for five furlongs, the last three in 43. Barras (Holland) galloped half a mile in 56, and Etta Quex (Moore) sprinted two furlongs on the sand in 26. The two-year-old Captain Crusoe (Eyles) sprinted three furlongs down the back in 41. Captain Crusoe was accompanied by Amigo (Clutterbuck), who afterward galloped half a mile in 57.
Black Plato (Clutterbuck) and Peter’s Choice (Holland) completed five furlongs in I.SJ, the best over the distance this morning. Peter’s Choice showed to advantage over the concluding stages. Battledress (Holland) and Apocalypse (Alnslle) galloped live furlongs in 1.10, Battledress beiug in front at the finish.
