WHEN GERMANY FALLS
Effect On U.S. Armed
Forces (Received August 22, 9.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 22. Between 1,009,000 and 2,000.000 men will be released from service when Germany falls, said the director of selective service, Major-General Hershey. “Demobilization will be gradual, because even if 1000 were dismissed hourly, it would take 10 months to free 2,000,000.” .Major-General Hershey endorsed the idea of gradual demobilization even after Japan’s defeat, but admitted “it will be unpopular because the people, want the boys to come home.”
