Feature Races And High Class Fields

(By

Overcheck.)

The Metropolitan Trotting Club's National meeting opens at Addington today. The club has received excellent acceptances and there is every prospect of highclass racing. There are two special feature events — one for four and five-year-old trotters, and the other for three-year-old pacers. These two races hare attracted the best of the horses eligible and both should be keenly contested. Of the pair on scratch In the Addington Trotting Stakes, Casablanca has already demonstrated that lie Is much above the average, and is sure to let those behind him know they have been to the races. Believe Me, Desmond's Pride. Blue Horizon, and Fantom will be formidable contenders for major honours. In some quarters Fantom is regarded as the best trotter in the Dominion. wlilie we have yet to learn how good liltie Horizon really is. He has beaten a field of pacers, which is no mean effort for one of ids age. In the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes. Slavonic, Admiration, Czardas, and Bohemian will receive most support, with the. first-named the actual favourite. He won the Sapling .Stakes in hollow fashion from Jack’s Son and Admiration, and appears to be set for early advancement. The big race of the day is the National Handicap, which will afford two or three linrscs a chance of qualifying for the New Zealand Cup in November. Joan Conquest and Shadow Maid appear to have good prospects, while an improver on the limit is Braw Lass. Strong fields nrc duo to contest the other races, in which Gold Flight, Cabin Boy.
