RARATONGAN GIRLS IN SONGS AND DANCES

A colourful entertainment by Karatongans of the Wellington a.Ay.G.A. Tiare-Maori Club attracted a large crowd of friends on a recent night, when girls of the club gave a programme of songs and dances in island costume, demonstrating the Raratongan custom of accompanying household and fishing activities with songs and sometimes by dances. I<loral wreaths and leis of spring flowers were a lovely feature. A silver coin collection was made, from which the club. will, be contributing to the fund which is being built by the World’s Y.W.C.A. for social reconstruction in devastated countries. Votes of thanks were passed to Catherine I’ia. Taire Taringa, Annabel Monro Agnes Bryan, club officers and club members wb'o had produced the evening s programme.
