GIFTS FOR MERCHAN NAVY MEN
The chairman of the Overseas Seamen’s Gifts Committee, Wellington, Captain F. A. Macindoe. has received through Colonel J. Whyte a contribution of illb 13/9 toward the committee’s work, the money representing part of proceeds raised by conducting competitions on board a troopship during a recent voyage. The Overseas Seamen s Gifts Committee, Wel’ington, as an agent of the National Patriotic Fund Board, sees to it that a gift parcel with a suitable note is placed ou board every overseas merchant ship for each member of the crew, from the captain down, whose, port of departure from New Zealand, is sont n of A-Uckland. A. committee m ■A.ucKland. makes similar provision for deep-sea merchantmen leaving that port. A recent letter received by the Wellington committee was from a Dutch crew. '“We the Dutch crew of this ship, the letter stated, “wish to thank you for the gifts sent to us by your committee when we were in Wellington. Such generosity is not usual, and is for that reason all the more appreciated. We all enjoyed our stav iu your country aud hope that our travels will again one day bring us back to New Zealand. Thsnk you once again, for your kindness.—The \viiole Crew.”
