King Peter’s Chances Of Returning

PARTISANS’ ATTITUDE (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Received May 28, 7 p.m.) LONDON, May 27.

“Unless there is some unforeseen development, King Peter’s chances of returning to his country as the ruling monarch are very slim,” says a representative of the combined British and American Press in Yugoslavia. “There are three outstanding arguments supporting this conclusion. “First, the constant association of the King’s name with General Mikhailovitch, who is regarded throughout the liberation movement as the country’s greatest traitor. “Secondly, the King has been surrounded by Governments composed mostly of reactionary Serbs representing the exact opposite of what the Partisans are fighting for, namely, a free, federated Yugoslavia. The King’s recent declaration on this point came too late, and merely reiterated Marshal Tito's earlier proclamation. “Thirdly, the royal house was closely associated with the repressive dictatorship established by King Peter's father, Alexander.”
